Dancing Boys of Afghanistan, The

Synopsis: An Afghan exile reporter returns to his home country for an investigative report on the practice of young boys being used as sex slaves by powerful men in that country.
Quick review: Bacha Bazi, which loosely translated means boy play, is an ancient custom in Afghanistan. It usually starts with military commanders who keep young boys around for their entertainment. Under Taliban rule, the practice faded away, but with the U.S. led invasion is has returned. Afghan journalist Najibullah Quraishi returns to his native land to investigate (he was forced to leave because of previous investigative stories). What's surprising, is how easily men open up to him about this practice. One man even takes the reporter and film crew along with him as he's picking up a new boy, who appears to be nine years old. In another scene, the reporter confronts the man claiming to be the boy's father and asks directly if he knows how the boy will be used. Law enforcement ignores the practice (partly because they're involved in it, and because the men doing this are so powerful). It's a disturbing look because there seems to be no way to stop it from happening. Poor families desperate for money and corrupt leaders who are too powerful to arrest are a bad mix.
