Quick review:
When it comes to ensemble films, the Brits do it better. This is a charming example. Mr. Right opens with Louise, who returns to the matchmaking service she hired looking for the perfect man. What was wrong with the last one, they ask? Well, outside of being gay .... Louise has a group of gay friends. Her best friend is Alex, who is struggling to make it as an actor and living up to the expectations of his partner (not to mention his mother-in-law). Their friend Tom is a wildly successful artist who is attracted to younger, gorgeous men with many muscles. So long as he's free with the cash, he has a rent-a-boyfriend close at hand. The final friend is William, who is trying to find love while working in time (a lot of it) for his 9-year-old daughter, who is still dealing with her parents' divorce and then the death soon after of her mother in an accident. You'll recognize the characters because we all know friends with similar problems. They feel real and that adds to the charm. Even more important, it's not necessarily a "and they lived happy ever after" movie. Some couples make it, others do not. It's nice to see an intelligent film deal with the complexities of gay relationships.
