Quick review:
Helena is the de facto head of the family in Francisco Franco's family drama, "Quemar Las Naves." The young woman is caring for her dying mother, looking after the household and her younger brother, and dreaming of visiting far-off lands despite the fact that she can rarely leave the home. Younger brother Sebastian has many looking out for him, including a neighbor boy, Ismael. He's rich, and a host of body guards always around him, and two friends eager to please him by beating up anyone Ismael looks at. The one getting his attention is the new bad boy in school, Juan. As the romance between Sebastian and Juan develops, both Helena and Ismael become concerned. Once the siblings' mother dies, then it leaves both of them lost. Do they burn the bridges and move on with their lives, or do they keep holding on to what they've lost? The characters in the film are odd, and it can be unsettling. Still, it's very interesting because the director and writer don't beat you over the head with dialogue. There's a lot of subtext taking place and the audience is an active participant.
