You Should Meet My Son!

Year: 2010
Country: USA
Director: Keith Hartman
Starring: JoAnne McGee, Carol Goans, Stewart Carrico, Ginger Pullman, Steve Snyder, Acquah Dansoh, Matt Palazzolo, Chris Nolan
Synopsis: After failing to set her son up with a woman so he can get married and start a family, a Southern woman and her sister figure out he's gay. So it's time to set him up with a nice boy to settle down with.
Quick review: It's hard to believe this is a first-time director and screenwriter's film. I've almost given up on laughing out loud, but this film had me laughing than I've laughed in a theater in years. It is hilarious, and touching. It's been a runaway hit at the gay film festivals and belongs in your gay DVD library or Netflix queue. Brian and his roommate Dennis visit Brian's mom, Mae, every Sunday for dinner. Mae and her sister, Rose, also invite some single young woman over to meet Brian, hoping for romance. Brian and Dennis are lovers and mom is clueless. But after Brian and Dennis break up, the girl Mae has invited over this night lets it slip that Brian is gay and Mae and Rose finally figure it out. After a slight period of adjustment, Mae decides that she loves Brian just the way he is, and if she can't entice Dennis to come back to Brian, then she'll just have to go out and meet some nice gay men to introduce to Brian. It's your typical fish-out-of-water comedy, but it takes some surprising twists. And it has some terrific and fun characters. Is it over the top, sure. But if you get a chance to see this in a theater with friends, it'll be a great evening. The film had the audience I watched it with laughing hysterically and some were tearing up at the end. This is the best gay comedy I've seen in years.
