Wilby Wonderful

Synopsis: Wilby is an island in Nova Scotia and a scandal is about to be exposed by the weekly newspaper. There is a gay cruising spot on the island where sex and drugs run rampant and the paper is planning on naming names.
Quick review: This film opens with Dan attempting to kill himself, something he will attempt, and fail at, often. His marriage is over and the weekly newspaper in Wilby, an island in Nova Scotia, is about to name him as one of the gay men who frequent the only undeveloped part of the island. One of the island's police officers isn't quite sure about this gay cruising spot story, since the island is very small and he suspects there aren't that many gay men for it to be a problem. Turns out he is right to suspect something else may be behind this scandal. This is an ensemble film with many stories. The officer is having troubles with his ambitious wife and considering an affair; a teenage girl has her first boyfriend and he's pressuring her to have sex; and then there is the tale of Duck and Dan. Duck stops Dan from his first suicide attempt, and it's obvious that there are more emotions there than just concern. But Dan's world is falling apart and he's not ready to consider Duck's advances. Wilby Wonderful is an entertaining ensemble film that is well made and features actors you actually have seen before.
