The Gymnast

Synopsis: A former top gymnast whose career ended with an injury finds a new passion to escape her loveless marriage, aerial acrobatics. As she works with another woman an attraction develops and she soon discovers another passion that she didn't know was in her.
Quick review: Jane is about to turn 43 and feels that her life is anything but what she wanted. Her marriage is filled with silence and she knows that if she doesn't have the baby she wants soon, then it's not going to happen. She never got to experience the thrill of being a top gymast, having an injury end her career just before the Olympics everyone was sure would have made her a household name. She comes across a gymnastics teacher who is hoping to put together an aerial acrobatics show. Jane begins training with Serena, a younger Korean woman who was raised by Jewish parents. One has power, the other has grace. Their mentor hopes they can rub off on each other. As the two train they become much closer and Serena eventually reveals that she's a lesbian. Jane has never been attracted to a woman, and outside of sharing a same-sex kiss with her best friend in high school, never done anything of the sort. But it's obvious to both women that an attraction is developing and the only question is will these two women have the courage to take the next step? Serena must come out to her adoptive parents and Jane must leave her husband. This is a beautiful film with quality acting. The attraction develops slowly, which is fitting for both of these characters. This would be an excellent film for a lesbian date night or a group of lesbian films to enjoy.
