Quick review:
This film is a mess. It's poorly lit and many of the shots are the back of heads. It took me a while before I could recognize the characters and who was supposed to be whom. Not that that helps, because this film doesn't know what it wants to be. Is it a drama? A documentary? Something in between? I still don't know. Most of the second half of the film are prostitutes talking about their line of work and why they are doing it and holds very few surprises. So it's the drama part that must save this film. Xiao Bo comes from an average family and has decided to make his living selling his body. That's something his older brother Dabin cannot accept. He's a devout Christian and he spends most of his time on the streets searching for his brother and trying to save every other male prostitute he comes across. Why not female prostitutes? That's not answered. But Dabin goes to ridiculous lengths to try to save total strangers and it goes way past the point of believability. Throw in some more craziness with some of the characters dying at an early age for no apparent reason (at least none given) and this film will have you scratching your head more than anything. The only thing that may have been of interest are the many, many interviews with male hustlers, but since it appears documentary style and it's stuck in the middle of a drama, you never know if they are real or just reading lines. It's best just to skip this film altogether.
