Noah's Arc: Jumping the Broom

Year: 2008
Country: USA
Director: Patrik-Ian Polk
Starring: Darryl Stephens, Doug Spearman, Christian Vincent, Gregory Kieth, Rodney Chester, Phoebe Snow, Gary LeRoi Gray
Synopsis: The groundbreaking television series of black gay men hits the big screen with the story of Noah and Wade's wedding. But what's a gay wedding without a whole lot of drama?
Quick review: I have a love-hate relationship with Noah's Arc. I saw the original pilot at the Reel Affirmations festival where director Patrik-Ian Polk and the actor who plays Chance were on hand to introduce it and take questions. I loved the pilot, even if the characters were a bit cliche, but it was great to see a series dedicated to black gay men and let's face it, they cast it with some hot actors. Then it got picked up by Logo, who immediately tamed down the sex to make it a PG show. Ugh. The characters never did evolve from their cliche boxes and that was disappointing. But there is so little out there dedicated to black gay men that I never stopped rooting for the series, or stopped watching. And I was disappointed when the series was cancelled in 2006. Well the boys are back for the big wedding in Martha's Vineyard. The change of locations is smart, because it doesn't feel like the series. But all the characters are back and still haven't shown a whole lot of personal growth. Everything is as predictable as the series was, but since it has been a couple of years since you have been able to hang with this crew, it's easy to forgive. Ricky is still sleeping around, bringing a new trick to the wedding and hooking up with others along the way. Wade still has issues with coming out and living his life openly. Chance is still having marital problems. Alex is still trying to control the universe and facing being away from his husband for the weekend. And Noah is still Noah, balancing all the chaos and the fact that Wade isn't the only one in love with him. If you enjoyed the series it's worth checking out and watching this series come to an end.
