Proof Positive

Year: 2001
Country: USA
Director: Ray Muhammad
Starring: Anna Dominicis, Gabriel Fonseca, Anna George, Erickka Jones, Karim Mahmud, Ray Muhammad
Synopsis: A lesbian couple decide they want to have a child. Great, but the way they go about it may offend many viewers. And that's not the only thing that will offend them.
Quick review: It won't take you long before you realize this lesbian film was written and directed by a man. And I don't know a thing about Ray Muhammad, the writer and director, but I'm willing to bet he's a straight man. Because this film is more straight man's fantasy than a film lesbians can embrace. Zoe and Lara are a couple with some problems. Mostly, it's Zoe who is a bit on the wild side while Lara is the more pragmatic one. They decide the best way to solidify their relationship is to have a baby together. But, they don't want to use an anonymous sperm donor. They are very picky about what kind of man they want to father their child. And they also don't want him to be involved in the baby's life at all. So the plan is for Zoe to seduce a beautiful and intelligent black man, let him impregnate her, and then once she is pregnant, dump him and never let him know that he's the father of their child. The man they decide on is Lameck, who falls hard for Zoe. There's also Lameck's best friend, who is a male prostitute (who only services women, yeah right). Let's see, we have a rape scene and then one of the lesbians -- and the rape victim -- falling for a man. Is there any way to make this film more offensive? It's a shame too, because there is a good idea for a film in this script, if you rid it of all the straight male fantasies about lesbians and the other offensive parts. If the film had focused on lesbians tricking a straight man in order to get a child, that could make for an interesting film. But throwing in this all a lesbian needs is a good man to screw her to set her straight attitude is just too much. Plus, I have no idea who those actors are on the cover of the DVD, but I don't remember them being in the movie.
