An Angel Named Billy
Year:
2006
Country:
USA
Director:
Greg Osborne
Starring:
Buddy Daniels Friedman, Dustin Belt, Hank Fields, Richard Lewis Warren
Synopsis:
A country boy moves to the big city after his abusive father discovers he's gay and must grow up in a hurry.
Quick review:
The movie opens with Billy learning about same-sex love by experimenting with his best friend, Rick. Billy has just turned 18 and seems very innocent to the world around him. Maybe growing up in the country has kept him that way. But he does have one problem: His father. He's abusive and drove his wife, Billy's mother, away long ago. And as soon as the father discovers that Billy is gay, he drives him away. Billy gets to Los Angeles and must somehow piece together a new life. He finds a friend at the local coffeeshop, who can teach Billy a little about being gay in L.A. and also offer him a place to stay (no sex though, unfortunately, because they're both hot). Billy also sees a flyer looking for caretaker to help a recent stroke victim, Mark, around the house. Mark and his son, James, interview Billy and decide to hire him. That's when the romance begins. James is also gay and highly successful. And he has an immediate attraction to Billy. Mark is eager to encourage the attraction because he wants his son to find happiness. This is a very low-budget film (the house they shoot most of the movie in was the director's, according to DVD extras). So lower your expectations if you decide to see it. Still, the boys are hot and it's nice to see a father role being supportive of his gay son.
