Synopsis: The hit off-Broadway musical makes it to the big screen, and just like the stage show, the movie gives you just what you expect: Naked boys singing.
Quick review: I saw this film at the opening night of the Reel Affirmations gay film festival in Washington, D.C. Boy, those singers are naked. And they don't take long to toss off their clothes. So, yes, there is full frontal nudity. And lots of it. There is also singing. And boys. Who knew having 10 men sing naked would be such a hit? OK, gay men knew. And there's no mistaking the gay content here. Straight women may enjoy the show too, but the producers knew who their target audience is and played to it. Some of the songs are between two men. One song is about hooking up in the showers at the gym. In the world of Naked Boys Singing, there are no women. The film begins great, as we see each of the singers fully clothed getting ready for work. How do they get ready? By taking their clothes off. And when they finally appear on stage, there's no strip tease to delay the fun. They're bare and ready to go. Still, the movie was a bit of a disappointment. Basically, it's a film version of the stage show. With some minor points, it's the same show you would see if you went to New York. And as for the nudity, the camera never lingers to give the viewers a great view. So if you're looking for a penis fest, you'll be disappointed. But, the boys are very cute and all can sing. Some of the songs (Nothing But the Radio On, Robert Mitchum) are a lot of fun. The best thing that can be said about this film is you get exactly what the title promises, if little more.
