Quick review:
OK, we get it already. Prostitution is a crappy way to make a living. That's what you'll be screaming at the screen halfway through this Israeli film. Menni and Tal meet at a bar. It appears they both know each other as male prostitutes. But this is the first time they've actually talked to one another. A john appears and is interested in both, but he says all he can do is watch. They agree and go back to his place. There, they have sex in front of him. But, it's at his direction, rather than how they wanted to do it themselves. There is chemistry and a connection. Once the work is over, Tal offers to let Menni crash at his place. There is a sweetness between the two men who are both obviously intrigued, but concerned about what it all means. Menni accepts, and the two men sleep next to each other, but there's no sex. The following morning Tal makes breakfast for Menni and the two men discuss doing it again. Then everything goes wrong. Menni returns to find the woman he once slept with and his daughter sleeping in front of his door. She's a whore who is sick of being a mother, but has few other options. There's another subplot of a very old woman prostitute who acts as a sort of mother figure to Menni. What a woman of her age is doing walking the streets ... well, it's amazing she still gets business. Menni and Tal try to meet up again the next night, but both of them run into detours that keep them apart. And then the filmmaker beats the audience over the head with his main theme, that being a prostitute is not all fun and games and often involves real danger. It's a missed opportunity. A little less of a heavy hand there, and a little more touch exploring two prostitutes trying to find love while selling their bodies would have made this a stronger film.
