FAQS

Year: 2005
Country: USA
Director: Everett Lewis
Starring: Joe Lia, Allan Louis, Minerva Vier, Lance Lee Davis, Adam Larson
Synopsis: A group of gay men and women form their own family after they are rejected by society as a group of misfits. But the straight world isn't done with them just yet.
Quick review: It's the gays vs. the straights in this Everett Lewis [Luster] film. You're either with the queers, or you're against them. At least, according to Lewis. There is no middle ground. Sleep with someone of the same sex, or bash them. Those are the only choices. Even in West Hollywood a gay man can't walk to the corner without someone calling them a 'fag' or risk being piata practice for a couple of closet cases. Sounds like I'm piling on? I'm just trying to give you a taste of the movie, which doesn't let up. India has just arrived in WeHo after being thrown out of his home by his homophobic parents. He doesn't have any money or a place to go. He agrees to shoot a porn video so that he can eat. And of course the two straight men (the director and his reluctant co-star) rip him off. That's when he's chased down by two 'straight men' who want to bash gays. Coming to his rescue is the drag queen 'Destiny.' She takes the lost kitten home and offers him a place to stay until he can get his life in order. Destiny ends up taking in lots of strays, because it's a mean and cold world for gay youth. India finds a boyfriend, who has been abused by straight people all his life. Then he decides it's his mission in life to turn the hate into love. He's going to help one of his would-be bashers come to terms with his closeted homosexuality. He's going to rescue him. Of course, the co-basher isn't going to react well to this news. Start the drama. For the most part, this film offers little more than lots of cute boys running around naked and shirtless for most of the film. It's really hard to buy into the black-and-white world portrayed by Lewis. But the final scene between India and his boyfriend did touch me. So I'm not ready to give up on Lewis films just yet.
