Synopsis:
Two escaped convicts take the place of a gay couple who stages beauty pagents for young girls to hide from the authorities and a massive manhunt launched to find them.
Quick review:
Jeremy Northam and Steve Zahn play escaped convicts who steal a motor home while they are trying to avoid the dragnet set to recapture them. What they don't realize is that the motor home they stole is owned by gay couple Steve and Dave, who travel from small town to small town to stage beauty pagents for young girls. Since no one seems to be looking for the gay couple, the convicts play the role while they hope the manhunt for them quiets down. Until then, there is a pagent to put on and a small town bank to rob. Not to mention that the local sherriff seems to be showing an interest in the two men and their relationship. With this film gay cinema officially takes a step backward. Once again we have two straight men playing gay while they chase after skirts on the side. The real gay characters in the film come off as more sympathetic than they did 30 years ago, but it shows how little advancement has been made overall. And worse of all, for a comedy they forgot to bring the funny. The jokes are as predictable as the plot. I mean, one of the funny moments comes when Zahn's character reveals his real name: Wayne Wayne Wayne, Jr. Won't that have them rolling in the aisles?
