Quick review:
I really do try to give drug movies a chance and not just dismiss them because of my personal bias. Afterall, if this is to be a film about a rock and roll band, there must be drugs, right? Beni is the teen-age boy who has fallen hard for Fogi, the lead singer of The Minks. This is a band on the rise, but because of Fogi's distrust of giving control over to agents or anyone else, will probably never grow past being a local fan favorite. It's a source of frustration for the band and Beni. Fogi is his first love and the two grow close once he starts working as a roadie for the band. But Fogi is a rock star and cannot limit himself to just one person when it comes to sex. And after some time, he comes to resent Beni hanging around and acting like the sick puppy dog in love all the time. He tries to throw the youngster out, but Beni refuses to leave. He says he cannot live without Fogi. Then there are the drugs. Plenty of drugs. It threatens to ruin the band's success and the relationship between Fogi and Beni. Finally, Fogi decides to use the pretty young boy that has fallen for him by renting him out to older, more successful men as a way to feed his drug habit without actually have to work himself. This film didn't offend me as much as some other drug movies, perhaps because it has many more layers than just that. The relationship between Fogi and Beni takes some ugly turns and will likely have you wincing on the couch as you watch it.
