Quick review:
This is a strange little film. It's a child's movie for grown ups. In fact, I'm not sure I'd let my nephews and nieces watch it. Billy is 12 years old and when he and his best friend, Lou, play out their fantasies, he's always in the role of a woman. Which is OK, because Lou is a girl who prefers to be the man in the fantasies, mostly of being space explorers. When a new boy arrives at school it challenges the friendship. Roy may be new to the school, but it seems he's got some experience in masturbation, and he's quick to show the joys of self-love to Billy. The two begin a quiet ritual of mutual masturbation fun, until Billy's father hires a new hand to help around the farm. Despite the age difference, Billy becomes a love-sick fool whenever Jamie is about. And he's not the only one, as Lou too decides maybe there is some value in being a woman. This is a hard film to love. At times the childish humor and pranks you would expect out of a bunch of 12 year olds bores adults watching the film. And there are other plot twists too intense for children, especially the climax. I certainly would not say 'fabulous' to the mixing of the two.
