2005
Country:
USA
Director:
Marc Moody
Starring:
Andrew Keitch, Joan Lauckner, Tim Hammer
Synopsis:
A college professor can't get over the fact that he's a gay man, and by definition will never be normal. But an accident sends him to a mystical place where he's living high school over again, but this time everyone is gay.
Quick review:
Take a sprinkle of Wizard of Oz, mix in a little Back to the Future and add a heaping portion of gay and you get this Marc Moody movie. Brad is a young 40 college professor who has accepted his homosexuality, but still desires to be normal. He s tired of being different and a trip back home for his parent s reunion reminds him just how different he is. It is during this trip that he has a Oz moment when after a car crash he is transported to a magical world from his high school past where being gay is normal. In fact, it is the straights who must hide or risk being beaten up by straight-bashers. After adjusting to the change in realities, Brad begins to feel that he is finally normal and has fallen in love with the hunkiest guy from his senior year. But being normal is only a point of view, and Brad finds that his point of view is shifting. Sure, you won t believe the plot and this film borrows too much on classics that came before it, but it s still a pretty enjoyable film with lots of beefcake to admire.
