Crazy Richard/I can't even think straight
Year:
2002
Country:
Australia
Director:
Dean Francis and Katrina Mathers
Starring:
Richard Viede, Katrina Mathers and Dominic McDonald
Synopsis:
A former child star tries to rekindle his career by playing a gay boy in a new sit-com. He agrees to let a camera crew film it all in this mockumentary.
Quick review:
This movie is intended to be a campy mockumentary, like 'This is Spinal Tap.' Throw in a lot of gay and make it a black comedy and there should be a market for it, right? Not in this case. Richard Veed was a TV child superstar, until drugs brought down his golden career at the age of 13. After going the detox route and longing for the spotlight again, Veed tries to make his comeback by playing gay in a new TV sit-com, 'I Can't Even Think Straight.' To help get the public to fall in love with him again, Richard agrees to be the subject of a documentary film, meaning Katrina and her cameraman spend a lot of time following him around. Of course things don't go well and we get to see an actor on the verge self destruct. Included on the DVD are the first two episodes of the show 'I Can't Even Think Straight.' If they serve any purpose it is to make the movie look better, because the show itself is awful. I was tempted to give the movie two triangles because it was so much better than the TV show, but then I came to my senses.
