Producing Adults (Lapsia ja aikuisia - Kuinka niitä tehdään?)

Year: 2004
Country: Finland
Director: Aleksi Salmenperä
Starring: Pekka Strang, Minttu Mustakallio and Tommi Eronen
Synopsis: A psychologist working at an infertility clinic decides she's ready to become a mother, but her boyfriend has no desire to become a father. Complications arise when a lesbian in the office becomes pregnant.
Quick review: Venla and Satu are two women working at a Finnish infertility clinic, helping others become parents. Both decide they want to become mothers themselves. For Venla, that means convincing her reluctant boyfriend -- a speed skating star -- to agree. It's more complicated for Satu, who is a lesbian. She decides to give in to the advances of her brother's friend. The desire to be mothers brings the two women together as they feel more apart from the men in their lives. In fact, the depths of the deception Venla's boyfriend uses to avoid becoming a father is overwhelming. The two women eventually turn to each other. This is the first Finnish gay film to be added to this database. It is much stronger than many nation's first attempts at a gay film, showing a depth of gay characters you usually don't find in many nation's 100th attempt.
