Green Plaid Shirt

Year: 1996
Country: USA
Director: Richard Natale
Starring: Gregory Phelan, Kevin Spirtas, Richard Israel, Jonathan Klein, Russell Scott Lewis
Synopsis: Phil and Guy meet at a garage sale when they both want to buy the same green plaid shirt in the late 1970s. It begins a rocky romance that takes place during the early years of the AIDS crisis.
Quick review: This story is told through a series of flashbacks, and that is perhaps the weakest part of what might have been a solid film. It jumps around from one place to another and at times reveals twists before you're ready for them. It left me scratching my head. Why is Phil kissing this new guy, who has not been introduced to us yet? What happened to Guy? About 30 minutes later we get introduced to the new guy, Todd, and find out he's the boyfriend of one of Phil's friends. Say what? That's the way it was for me watching this movie. There are key moments in the relationship of Phil and Guy that are not dealt with. Do we get a discussion of Guy being HIV positive? Nope. Nor when he gets sick and it's obvious he has AIDS is there a discussion of Phil's reaction. We never find out if Phil is HIV positive or not. There were so many unanswered questions that I was unsatisified when the movie ended.
