Long Firm, The
Year:
2004
Country:
UK
Director:
Billie Eltringham
Starring:
Mack Strong, Sir Derek Jacobi, Joe Absolom, Israel Aduramo, John Chancer and Tim Flavin
Synopsis:
This BBC Miniseries focuses on Harry Starks, a 1960s-era gay gangster, and is told through the eyes of four people who knew him.
Quick review:
I liked the format, which each of the four segments is told from the point of view of someone who enters the gangster's life. The first is an English lord, who meets Harry at a party. The second is the wife of a friend, who Harry promised to look after when his friend is sent to jail. The third is a sleazy character who agrees to help Harry hunt down the person who killed one of his call boys. And finally, through the eyes of a liberal do-gooder who wants to help reform Harry. What I didn't like was there are some holes in the plot too big to be believed. But, it's nice to see a gay character who is strong and comfortable in his own skin.
